And how has that encounter, in turn, informed the hope and empowerment laden in their worship tradition?

II. What did Melva Costen mean when she stated on p. 112 that, "A very important mission for a people to claim a mutual 'pilgrim's journey,' in God's story is to render service by engaging in efforts to reconstruct an unjust society?" How has that reconstruction been the rallying cry of African Americans in worship in the church? How has the struggle for racial justice in the society, despite white Christian leaders' use of the Bible to sanction black subordination, signaled that we are now living in the Age of the Black Christ (as opposed to the white Christ)?
