ASSIGNMENT:
Matty is a 25-year-old (1/12/1992) man with Muscular Dystrophy. He is deaf in his left ear and partially in his right ear since birth, he also has epilepsy, this is controlled with medications. He currently lives at a Young Care Facility in Sydney. He has been living at this facility for the past 2 years. Prior to that he lived with his parents John and Mareen Henderson, he is their only child. He is very close with his parents who visit him at least 5 days a week.
Sarah Cuttle is Matty's primary carer at the facility. She is also 25 years old. She usually takes him on social outings to the shops or beach etc. She has known Matty since he came to the facility.

On their recent outing to the shops Sarah experienced some challenging behaviours from Matty when it was time to leave. He was refusing to follow directions from Sarah and repeatedly kept going back into the shops almost hitting a few people with his power wheelchair. Sarah had to take control of the chair and exit the shops with Matty. When they arrived back at the facility both were not communicating to each other.
3- How has Sarah disrespected Matty's rights and removed choice and control from him? Refer to the NDIS Standards - Core 1 - rights and responsibilities (person centred supports)
4- Explain what techniques Sarah could have engaged to assist Matty with his decision making while out at the shops?

Sarah, on her days off, went to the beach. She tagged Matty on Facebook in a picture of her at the beach saying, "wishing you were here". She thought it might make amends from their incident the other day at the shops. Matty's parents saw the picture and reported Sarah to Manager at the facility. Sarah has had an interview with the Facility Manager and has been re-educated on the correct use of social media. Matty's parents no longer want her to care for him, however they see her talking to him on one of their visits and become distressed with the situation.
