Question: It is also fascinating to me to consider how we, in our highly industrialized society, differentiate among people based on occupations. Consider a doctor and food server. Both are service professions. Both are necessary to our society. Anyone such as myself, who has done restaurant work would tell you how hard a food server has to work for their pay. Yet do we equate these jobs the same in terms of prestige and salary? Why is there such an inequity between these two service professions?
