Milgram examines the necessity of; the reasons for; and the dark side of obedience to authority.
Maslow examines individuals' basic needs for security as well as how individuals can move beyond these basic needs. His arguments can also be used to understand how governments can use fear and insecurity to control individuals.
Kohlberg studies the moral stages of why individuals do, or don't, obey authority.
Mill is concerned about the tyranny of the masses and argues for the need for the protection of individual freedom of thought and action in the face of the power of social conformity.

Compare and Contrast the ideas of how each of these four scholars address the need for both the protection of individual freedom and obedience to authority.
How can these ideas help us to understand how governments and society control the behavior of individuals?
