Scenario:
After watching "The Hunger Games" movie, you became interested in who actually wrote the book. Upon browsing the web for the author, you find yourself at the website suzannecollins.com. Once you have reviewed the homepage, you decide you'd like to find out more about the book, "Year of the Jungle" and are interested in seeing the reviews for "Gregor and the Marks of Secret."
Tasks:
1. Find the book synopsis for Year of the Jungle.
2. Find the reviews for the book Gregor and the Marks of Secret
Most Likely Path:
Starting on the homepage, the user would most likely navigate to the ‘Works' tab and scroll until she found the book, "Year of the Jungle". Once they found it, they would probably click on it hoping to read the synopsis. However, that page only has reviews and awards for the book. Assuming that the rest of the pages in the ‘Works' section only show reviews for books and not a synopsis, they would scroll down to find the book, "Gregor and the Marks of Secret". On this page, they will find the reviews.
Scenario:
You are watching the Hunger Games movies with your significant other when you find out they want to read the books based on their experience while watching the movie. Their birthday is coming up so you decide to purchase the book series as a gift.
Tasks:
1. Find the purchase works section of the website.
2. Utilize the FAQ to help find the books.
Most likely path:
Once the user has looked over the homepage, they will go to the works section. After getting to the works section the user will realize they can not find anywhere to purchase the books. This will lead to the user looking for help and trying to find a help section. The user will search the current page then look back on the homepage, searching the header and footer of both sites without success before leaving the site.
Scenario:
You and a friend have just finished watching the Hunger Games movie. Your friend really enjoyed the movie and mentions how much she would love to read the book but does not know anything about them. Lucky for you, her birthday is coming up and the book would make a good gift. You only know a little bit more about the books than your friend and have heard that the author is releasing a prequel. Go to the authors website, suzannecollinsbooks.com. Search the website for information about the first book and when the prequel will be available.
Tasks:
1. Utilize the search function.
2. Discover up-to-date information about the author's upcoming work.
Most Likely Path:
Once the user has looked over the homepage and not found a search function, they will most likely go to the "Works" page to find information about the first book. They will not find any information about the prequel or any other upcoming works from the author, so they will most likely go to the "Biography" page, then to the "Interview" page before leaving the site.
Scenario:
You are playing a trivia game with friends where the theme is "Books Made into Movies" and you want to brush up on your movie knowledge. You visit a website called suzannecollinsbooks.com and use the links to find out more information about the author's books and movies.
Tasks:
1. Use the quick links
2. Did Suzanne Collins write the screenplay for the Hunger Games movie?
Most Likely Path:
In most cases the user/fan wouldn't use the links to find more information about the author, the links really wouldn't help the user find out more information about the author. They would go to suzannecollinsbooks.com and use the two tabs to the right which are ‘Biography' and ‘Interview' to know more about the author, her ideas behind the books, etc.

Task :
You will conduct the usability test with a minimum of two (2) actual or potential users as participants on your team's current website. No materials collected from the participants need to be submitted for the assignment (such as the questionnaires they filled out).
However, you will need to include any data from those materials in your assignment submission (see below).
Note: Participants should be anonymous, so do not include names. You can, however, assign each participant a number for referencing specific participants in your usability report.
To show that you did conduct the test, you must submit the "raw" data from the test: participants' answers to the pre-test and post-test questionnaires, and results from the scenarios and tasks such as success/failure to accomplish task, time it took to accomplish task, and any comments that the participants spoke out loud. You do not need to analyze this data before submitting the assignment.
To summarize, you must conduct the test with at least two (2) actual or potential users, and you must submit for the assignment:
• Raw Data from test:
o Pre-test Questionnaire answers from all participants
o Post-test Questionnaire answers from all participants
o Success or failure for each task
o Time it took to accomplish each task (or time at which user gave up trying to accomplish task)
o Path the participant took for task
o Any "thinking out loud" comments from participants
o Any of your observations from the testing
