Visit the website of the FEC (fec.gov) and the website operated by the Center for Responsive Politics (OpenSecrets.org).
Spend time investigating how each site provides federal campaign finance data. Pay particular attention to the data on the money reported by those DONATING money to campaigns and the data on the money reported by those RECEIVING money.
Look at the data for a sitting member of Congress (this can be any member of congress - not necessarily someone that represents you or your state). Provide a summary of what you learned about the money that they have raised. What did you find interesting?
Look at the data for an interest group or a political party. Provide a summary of what you learned about the money that that group donated to federal candidates or causes. What did you find interesting?
Now that you are more informed on the data, what is your opinion about the role that money plays in federal campaigns? How should this data be used by voters?
