Problem: Primary sources are traces of the past. They are firsthand accounts created by people in an earlier era. The American Yawp Reader defines primary sources as the "raw materials of history." You will be confronting and interpreting selected 'raw materials' in this reader every week, and considering them alongside the secondary sources assigned in this class, namely the Davidson textbook and Professor Sbardellati's podcasts. You are also expected to analyze primary sources in each of your written assignments this semester, beginning, of course, with this Primary Source Analysis paper. Your task in this short paper is to choose for analysis one of the primary sources from chapters 16-20 of The American Yawp Reader, and compose a short essay addressing the following two questions: Why is your chosen primary source historically significant? How does your primary source further our understanding of at least one key concept emphasized in the podcasts and/or the textbook?
