Assignment:

An 80-year-old woman with a medical history of hypertension (HTN), venous insufficiency, and stable angina goes to her NP for a check-up. Her vital signs (VS) are as follows: BP 168/100, HR 100, RR 20. Her blood is drawn and results show that the LDL cholesterol is 180 (desired = <100) and HDL of 38 (desired = > 40). Urinalysis is normal except for slight proteinuria (normally there is no protein in the urine).

1. Name 4 physical assessment/lab work signs that the NP might find that indicate damage to the patient's body from HTN

2. Explain how the low-density lipoproteins (LDL) & high-density lipoproteins (HDL) cholesterol levels relate to the pathogenesis of this patient's HTN.

3. What S&S would the NP expect related to the patient's venous insufficiency? Correlate these S&S with the pathology of this disease state. How does this state differ from the disease of the arteries?
