The Sharpeville massacre, which took place in South Africa during apartheid, received a lot of attention in the media as a violent and disruptive incident brought on by black protestors. The opinions and experiences of the protesters were frequently discounted or completely disregarded. A more thorough picture of what happened did not start to take shape until apartheid was abolished For many years, the Greenwood Massacre in Tulsa, Oklahoma, went mostly unreported and was forgotten. At the time of the incident, a narrative of black inferiority and white supremacy was prevalent. Why might this be the case? How does this impact knowledge that is produced?
