Gatsby, the protagonist of the film The Great Gatsby, is initially introduced as a wealthy and confident man. Gatsby is such a perfect individual; one may claim that he is fictitious. However, at Nick's house, Gatsby can be seen as vulnerable and distressed. Seeing Gatsby in such a state when he meets Daisy at Nick's house indicates internal change. These new emotions Gatsby shows conflict with the character he worked so hard to create. Five years ago Gatsby fell in love with Daisy the moment he met her. To please her, he wanted to build a name for himself and amass a fortune. Nonetheless, Gatsby cannot have Daisy when he has everything. She is already married and has children with another man. Even so, she misses him as much as he misses her, so he attempts to persuade her to stay with him. His obsession with Daisy begins in this scene and grows throughout the film. Gatsby's obsession is evident right after this scene. He invites Daisy to his mansion in order to impress her with his lavish possessions. We discover more about Gatsby and realize just how desperate he is for Daisy from this point on. The internal change that occurred in Gatsby is that he became infatuated and obsessed with Daisy.
