Assignment:
The final project is the culmination of learning, where the student will interview a person with a disability. This person can be any adult with a disability; it can be a student, a relative, a friend, or a stranger (not encouraged). The interview should be done in person, if possible, and not via any electronic device such as phone, computer, instant messaging, or email.
The content of the interview will consist of the following questions:
1. Demographic information (age, gender, ethnicity, type of disability, age of onset)
2. How does the person's disability affect them?
3. What benefits does the person feel, if any, from his or her disability?
4. What has the person's employment history been like? What supports were used?
5. What is the biggest problem, challenge, or barrier the person faces, both personally and in employment?
6. What would the person like to see changed that would improve his or her life regarding their disability?
7. Describe some of the philosophies discussed in this course and how they are relevant to the person interviewed. What resources used are benefiting this person, and what additional resources might this person benefit from?
Once the interview has been conducted, the student will create an approximate 10-minute PowerPoint presentation (or similar presentation program) summarizing the person's answers to the above questions and their analysis of question #7. The presenter should try to use the person's own words as much as possible. This means preparation will be essential!
