Time Management Paper Requirements
In week 4, students will be tasked with writing an academic paper on time management. The paper must be supported by research and not opinion. The purpose of the paper is to ascertain the student's ability to write scholarly, research, paraphrase, and cite peer reviewed sources. It will take time to find the research to support your paper, so start early and remember the Welder Library staff is only a phone call away.
Students are tasked with maintaining a scholarly tone and following the guiding principles below:
• avoid I, we, me, you
• avoid contractions- can't should be cannot
• avoiding trite sayings -"In this day and age"
• avoid opinion statements- "I think, I feel" or "Time management is the most important skill"
• after each sentence, ask yourself, is that common knowledge to the common person? It not, you must support your work with a citation
• it is always a good rule of thumb to use a citation to validate definitions and statements with specific information such as statistics
• when using information from articles, save quotes for when absolutely necessary, paraphrasing shows higher levels of critical thinking
• use the "sandwich technique"for your paragraphs. You always want a good mix of research and your voice - introduce the topic in your own words, support it with research, and most importantly always explain why your research matters. See example below:
o Schedules impact the amount of time teachers have to collaborate during the day. Skaalvik and Skaalvik (2011) found that 85% of teachers going into the profession, selected collaboration as an important trait, but only 53% perceived teaching as offering partnership opportunities. The gap between the importance of collaboration versus the perceived reality of collaboration demonstrates a disconnect with industry expectations for new teachers.
• Make sure you have reviewed the writing tips in Module 03: Read and Review as well as the information on scholarly writing and paraphrasing.
The paper will address the following:
1. Briefly explain the concept of time management.
2. Identify 3 strategies or techniques from the research that assist with time management.
3. How does the online learning platform impact time management? Identify a minimum of 1 solution from the research to overcome the challenge.
Paper Requirements:
• Minimum of 3 pages (introduction-conclusion)
• Minimum of 5 peer reviewed sources within the last 10 years from Google Scholar or Welder Library. Remember, if you list a source on your reference page, you must include it in the body of your paper as a citation.
• APA 7th edition is required (please review the APA PowerPoints within the module Read & Review section).
