Here is my first introduction:This proposal investigates the quantitative impact of conflict resolution training on organizational performance metrics such as employee retention, profitability, and productivity across public, private, and nonprofit sectors. It aims to provide a comprehensive analysis comparing the effectiveness of conflict resolution programs within these diverse environments.
Readers can expect an in-depth examination of conflict resolution training''s role in enhancing workplace dynamics, with a focus on measurable outcomes. The study will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining statistical analysis with case studies to illustrate the real-world applications and benefits of conflict resolution training across sectors.
writing a Hult DBA research proposal
The purpose of this guide is to help you put together a strong research proposal as you prepare for the Hult DBA. While every detail of this guide may not apply to your research, we hope that each point provides an opportunity to consider every element and its impact on the successful completion of the Hult DBA.
Please note that this guide does not guarantee acceptance into the Hult DBA. Acceptance decisions are based on several factors, including the nature of your proposal, your research interests, your ability to communicate the quality of your ideas, your commitment to an intense period of research, and the capacity of the program. In other words, your research proposal, and a successful personal assessmentinterview (PAI) will greatly impact your chances of getting accepted.
Things to note
• Successful DBA research must be novel and rigorous, i.e., you must make a significant contribution to the body of knowledge. While your proposal doesn't have to meet this criterion, it must indicate that your project, with extensive finetuning, will eventually do so.
• DBA research can be novel in several ways: new populations, new events, or new perspectives.
• You are not expected to be an expert. AT LEAST NOT YET! While you might not fully understand the inner workings of academic research or the specific details of your subject, you are expected to have good knowledge about the topic and how you might situate your research within the larger body of academic and practitioner literature.
• Your research proposal must leave the readers (aka the Selection Committee) with a clear sense of direction and purpose. They should be interested and excited about finding out more about your ideas and you.
• A research proposal is an essential first step in your doctoral journey. Make sure you give it your fullest consideration and effort by refining and editing it a few times before it is submitted.
7-step Guide
1. A clear working title
a. Consider including keywords that would describe your proposal
b. A general rule of thumb is for your title to be no longer than 15 words. You don't want your title to be too short either.
c. The title might change as you develop your research in the program
2. Problem of Practice
a. This is a clear statement about the research problem and its relevance
b. It forms the foundation of your research purpose, research question(s), hypotheses, and propositions.
c. Consider the research gapyou are hoping to fill. What is the question that you are trying to answer?
d. Is this problem in line with one of Hult's research challenges? Elaborate.
e. Consider research feasibility in the allocated time of 2.5 years (part-time)
3. Literature Review
a. This is background knowledge and context of the subject you wish to research. Include key literature and findings
b. What theories or models will you consider? Consider how the literature aligns with your problems of practice
c. Consider how your work links to the works of others in the same or related fields
d. Since the DBA is relevant for both practitioners and scholars, consider including both peer-reviewed scholarly articles and practitioner sources.
4. Methodology & Approach
a. Consider the design that will lead to solutions for your research problem and the successful completion of your DBA
b. How will you conduct the research? What evidence/data would you collect to answer the research question(s)?Who/what are your sources of data?
c. What are some of your guesses for what the solution(s) might be? Where would you start looking for answers?
d. How would you know your solutions are successful and what would you do if you discovered that your proposed solution was not successful?
e. Keep in mind that the Hult DBA is purely quantitative. Quantitative methodology is commonly derived from statistical methods that measure variables relevant to predetermined hypotheses. Quantitative data analysis is linear and deductive. As such, the data must be fixed and quantifiable.
5. Project scope
a. Consider the research stages and milestones, e.g., conceptual design, data collection, and publishable papers. The DBA program arc provides details of the DBA flow. How will you progress through this?
b. What challenges (personal or professional) might impact your potential research success? How do you intend to overcome these?
6. Reference List
a. The American Psychological Association (APA) version 7 style guide is the appropriate convention for Hult's papers. Hence, citations in your proposal and an aligned reference list using APA v.7 are critical indicators that you have read and understood the relevant literature in your field.
7. Last but not least, follow the 3 Cs
a. Clear: intelligible and clearly articulated
b. Concise: succinct and focused
c. Coherent: the link between all sections; what you want to do, why you want to do it, and how you want to do
Be specific about what makes your project original and significant (for academia and practitioners)
State your plan for research: proposed population/sample, methodology, data collection, theoretical perspectives
Demonstrate why you want to do it at Hult - fit between the project and Hult
