In 1870, the Department of Justice was created in order to thwart White supremacist violence against Black people.

Some would argue that the recent killing of three Black people in Jacksonville, Florida by a young White supremacist gunman can be attributed to Governor Ron DeSantis's war on Black History in the state. The NAACP even issued a travel advisory to all Black people warning of the hostile environment that was being created. On the other hand, Governor Kathy Hochul in New York state promotes diversity and the acknowledgement of Black history. Yet, on May 14, 2023 ten Black people were killed at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York by a young White supremacist gunman.
