Elections Canada has assembled a group of young Canadians who have just turned 18 years old.  They have asked these young Canadians a series of questions and have determined that they probably slept through their Social Studies classes in high school.  They are now eligible to vote in an upcoming Federal Election and they know nothing about the Canadian electoral process.

YOUR TASK:  CREATE A F.A.Q. (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS) BROCHURE THAT WILL EDUCATE THESE YOUNG CANADIANS AND PREPARE THEM TO MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION IN THE UPCOMING ELECTION.  YOUR BROCHURE MUST INCLUDE A COMBINATION OF INFORMATION AND VISUAL IMAGES.  REMEMBER, YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR AUDIENCE'S ATTENTION.  THE BROCHURE MUST ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: 

Section 1:

Section 5:

  • What type of buildings are polling stations usually located?
  • What are the hours of voting on election day?
  • What accessibility issues must be met at a polling station?

Section 6:

  • Which people are eligible to vote by special ballot?
  • What is an advance poll?  When is it open?

Section 7:

  • What is the process that a political party must go through to allow them to register with Elections Canada and run in a federal election?
  • Do you have to belong to a political party to run in a federal election?
  • What is a party platform?

Section 8:

  • What is the Elections Expenses Act?
  • Why do we have a piece of legislation such as the Election Expenses Act?

Section 9:

  • What is civil disobedience?  (Provide an example in the response)

Section 10:

  • What role does the media play in an election?
  • What are public opinion polls?  Are they 100% accurate?
  • What is the average voter turnout in a Federal Election in Canada?  
  • What is the average voter turnout in a Municipal Election in Canada?
  • Do you think it should be mandatory that every eligible citizen vote in all Canadian elections?  Why or why not?
