Movie Budgets. How does the cost of a movie depend on its length? Data on the cost (millions of dollars) and the running time (minutes) for 29 films of 2005 are provided in the SPSS data set called Movie_budgets.sav (found on your class site).

a. The variable Run time (in minutes) is considered a(n) _________________ variable, while the variable Budget (millions $) is considered a(n) _______________ variable.

i. Run time = Explanatory, Budget = Response
ii. Run time = Response, Budget = Explanatory
(1 pts)

b. The first step is to examine the relationship graphically. Use SPSS (Graph > Legacy > Scatterplot) to create and upload the appropriate scatterplot. Be sure to give your graph an appropriate title and your name.

c. Which of the following is the most appropriate description of the form, direction, strength, and deviations for this relationship based on the scatterplot? (select one)

i. Moderately strong, positive (or direct) linear relationship, with no apparent outliers.
ii. Practically no linear relationship, with many apparent outliers.
iii. Strong negative (or indirect) linear relationship, with no apparent outliers.
iv. Moderately strong linear relationship, with no apparent outliers.

d. Use SPSS to generate the linear regression output (Analyze > Regression > linear). Upload the Model Summary portion of the output (save as an image and upload or copy and paste the table into the answer box), and then report the value of the correlation between Budget and length of the movie.
