We will conclude the course with a discussion of writing in graduate school. In this post, please consider the topic of punctuation. Punctuation errors are common across writers and usually, they are minor. However, punctuation can sometimes change the meaning of a sentence and, if frequent, punctuation errors can be distracting.

Choose one of the topics below:

1. How does punctuation in your language(s) differ from English?
2. Does English have some punctuation marks that your language doesn't or vice versa?
3. Are the usage rules the same? Punctuation in English has changed throughout history. The usage rules have changed, and we have lost and gained punctuation marks.
4. What is a punctuation mark that doesn't currently exist that you think would be useful? (Here, you can invent a new punctuation mark or revive an old one.
