Assignment:

1. Answer sharply in essay form but focused totally on "issue" and "passage" asked:

The (dialogue called) "Meno":

Socrates tells the "recollection" myth which is very precise and is conceived to understand our ability to KNOW the Forms or Idea(l)s, the "essence" of things. But he is directing it as an answer to the "paradox" Meno proposed (which you are NOT to discuss here but keep in VIEW as you answer). He says "courage" is required and the myth gives an understanding as to how to direct it. All that said,

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF DIALOGUE IN RELATION TO "RECOLLECTION" AS RECOUNTED IN THE MYTH (?) -- Socratic dialogue -- and what does the following "demonstration" with a "slave" about a mathematical problem point out to Meno about the Socratic way of enabling a "search" by way of Logos-EXCHANGE into re-envisioning WHAT something like Virtue (or anything else of communal importance!) is trying to accomplish? How does it answer the Meno obstacle and why does Meno propose it?

2. The Human Condition. (in conjunction with Video)

How does modern science use the "Archimedean point" (which is virtual: an imaginary focus to understand and ... "reality") and how does the "telescope" and Galileo function as symbols for the transformation of humans ushering in the new ERA of the modern? What does it mean to project the mind into somewhere "remote" from the Earth? What does it imply about the human condition of being Earth-bound (which is the originally evolved mode of being human)? How does the project of science require "leaving" the earth, by scientific hypothesis AND with the potential for space travel (via rockets man-made satellites telescopes etc)?
