Question: When Marji meets her uncle Anoosh she's drawn to his past, but for the wrong or at least misguided reasons. How does Marji interpret Anoosh's past and what is the problem with it? The following chapter is called The Sheep and while there is a scene where Siamak and his family ?ee the country by hiding in a ?ock of sheep, there is another, more thematic meaning to sheep in this chapter. Given what you read, why do you think Satrapi titled the chapter The Sheep. As the new Islamic, fundamentalist regime takes power we see more and more repressions for the Iranian citizens, especially Iranian women. We'll talk about this, about what happens to Marji's mom, and the unfortunate parallels to our country. Instead of directing your thoughts with a question, I'd like you to write whatever you felt after reading those scenes. Later on, Marji's mother tells her, If anyone asks what you do during the day, say you pray, understand? She is essentially telling Marji that she needs to lie to survive. Again, sadly, this advice could apply to people in the US. Can you think of groups that have, or have had, to lie to survive?
