Assignment:
Discussion Question 1: God's Response to Job's Suffering
Purpose: The purpose of this discussion is to process God's response to Job's suffering.
Post: For your initial post complete part 1 and 2
Part 1: Job, throughout the book, asks God why this suffering is happening to him. Here are a couple of examples:
I say to God: Do not declare me guilty, but tell me what charges you have against me. (10:2) and If I have sinned, what have I done to you, you who see everything we do?
Why have you made me your target?
Have I become a burden to you? (7:20)
God finally responds to Job in chapters 38-41, which you read this week. But God does not answer Job's question! Address these questions in your post:
- What is God's response to Job, both in word and deed?
- How does God handle the retribution principle?
- What question does God answer?
- How does God's response to Job sit with you? (Imagine God saying this to you in your time of suffering.)
Part 2: Communicate at least one other insight you gained from the course material this week that you would like to discuss or have a question about.
