Assignment:

One of a great deal of fear over a sudden change that created a sense of having no power was in my workplace. We were working as teachers in a private school in my home district and things appear good until one morning, after conducting morning assembly, all teachers were summoned to the staffroom for an urgent meeting at 9 AM. No one among teachers knew what he meeting was about. So e attended the meeting and we were joined by the school principle and school administrator, who also doubled as the owner.

We knew something unusual informed the meeting, but we were not sure what it was. While in the room, before the entry of senior management, everyone kept guessing and wondering what he agenda of the meeting was. Earlier in the week, there had been rumors that there were plans to sell the school to a new management. I sat quietly in a corner of the room wondering too, what was in wait. I was not sure. But I felt powerless already, because I knew whatever it was, it was obviously sudden and I had not power over it. Besides, it would a greater deal of mixed and confused information on me and my fellow teachers.

A few minutes past 9.AM, the management came in, some carrying large files. There was a moment of silence before one of us was asked to give a word of prayer. We sat and some sodas and snacks were served. It was evident they wanted to take as limited time as possible. The first to speak was the principle. He was brief in his speech where he thanked teachers for their dedication to ensure the school run smoothly. He went on to say that there were plans to sell and handover the school to a different management and that all teachers were required to reapply with the new management. All this time, teachers listened but with a clear sadness on their faces. It was a sad moment the school was being taken over by a different management. When the school administrator rose to speak, he stressed the same, saying they were sorry for any inconvenience that may cost teacher.

When a few of us were given the opportunity to speak, they asked questions, hard questions for that matter. What is our fate in this whole matter? How sure are we that the new management will give us another opportunity? The school principle rose and answered; "'the decision to absorbed you squarely lies with the new management, your part is to reapply." We knew all was not well and wished they told us this earlier. I felt strong sense of having no power and a great deal of confusing information to my fellow teachers.
