Society, Food habits and Consumption Assignment - Infographics
SUBJECT INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (SILO's) -
1. Review and analyse the history and future of food, both from a worldwide and Australian perspective.
2. Evaluate basic food consumption patterns in Australia against trends in other countries.
3. Consolidate and synthesise the impact of how sociological factors, such as culture, religion, socio-economic status, media and marketing on food choice in individuals, groups, communities and populations.
4. Critically analyse how changes to food habits and trends in food and diet affect food intake.
6. Communicate critical analyses of the impact of sociological factors on food choices to lay audiences
An infographic is a representation of information in a graphic format designed to make data easy to understand at a glance. People and organisations use infographics to quickly communicate a message, to simplify the presentation of large amounts of data, to see data patterns and relationships, and to monitor changes in variables over time.
In this assessment task, you will be required to produce two infographics (information graphic) that presents key elements from your learning. You will need to select 1 (one) case study from the 'Supplementary Resources' tile to focus your research and analysis. The person described in the case study is your intended audience for your infographics.
Case Study - Amira
The two infographics (Infographic A and Infographic B) together are worth 35% of your final grade Inforgraphic 2A (the first infographic) is worth 10% and the second infographic, 2B, is worth 25%.
The two infographics together, are 1500-word equivalent submissions, or 750 word-equivalent each, even though they are weighted differently. Examples have been provided on the following pages as to what this may look like.
Infographic Content required -
A. Sociological factors affecting food choice
Develop an infographic that details which sociological factors impact food choice for your chosen case study, including how and why this is so.
1. Culture (ancestry, immediate family, local community)
2. Religion
3. Personal attributes (age, gender, family position)
4. Socio-economic status (income, education, SEIFA, community demographics)
5. Food Security
- How might this impact food choice?
- Are there any local emergency food relief options your case study could access? (check eligibility and other limitations)
B. Dietary Acculturation and Food Consumption
1. Overview of dietary acculturation and its relation to nutrition transition
2. How does dietary acculturation/nutrition transition relate to your case study?
3. Has there been any impact (past or present) related to POVERTY, POLOTICAL INSTABILITY, MIGRATION (migrant only), DISCRIMINATION on your case study? If so, how has this impacted food consumption?
4. Has there been any impact (past or present) related to CHANGES IN FOOD PROCUREMENT (i.e. from market, friends, garden, supermarket etc.)
It may be best to place your Reference List in a separate document from your Infographic. In - text citations within your Infographic are required. Please submit your infographics as a PDF document.
Remember, infographics use diagrams, pictures and symbols to convey information. In relation to words, less is more! Written words should be kept to a minimum. Minimal words should complement the graphics.
All infographic A submissions will be uploaded into a shared folder on LMS once marks have been finalised. If you wish for your Infographic to NOT be shared with your peers, please email me directly. This is an OPT-OUT process. It will be assumed that those who do not contact me agree to have their work shared. This is a great opportunity to see how your peers have approached this task. If you would rather remain anonymous, please be sure not to include your name on your infographic or in the file name.
Note - Need equivalent to 750 words but infographic do APA 6 reference with it and do in text citations and do an info graphic.
