Case: Caitlin's first placement as a new graduate is a busy surgical ward where there are many patients with sounds. On the evening shift, she is instructed by the senior registered nurse to use a particular dressing for a patient's wound. The following morning, working with another registered nurse, Caitlin us given advice to use a different dressing for the same wound. It concerns her that the advice being given is not consistent. In her undergraduate program, she remembers being told that variability in practice is usually not effective.
