Students are to select the firm and identify a case/situation/issue affecting the organisation. Students are to describe the case/situation/issue in detail and demonstrate understanding of theories and concepts and apply them to the identified situation.
Students are expected to apply top down approach, encompassing the external environment (consider global outlook and challenges), national environment (assess the general state of the economy and its potential effects on businesses), industry analysis (overall outlook for specific industry within which a company operates) and organisational analysis (assess internal strengths and weaknesses, financial condition and operating results of a company).
Students are to put together a Group Report and present their findings in class. Note that the assessment cannot be completed by individuals working alone. Students must complete both elements of this assignment, i.e . the Group Report and the Group Presentation.
The group written report marks will constitute 40% of the overall module grade. Unless there are clear evidences of unequal contribution to the group work, all group members will be awarded equal marks.
In addition to the written report, the group must deliver a group presentation. The group must present to the lecturer an electronic copy of the presentation powerpoint slides at least two days before the date of presentation.
The presentation will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
Organization and fluency of the presentation
Level of analysis demonstrated by the group and theindividual
Length of presentation: maximum of 30minutes presentation, and 15 minutes class discussion.
Methodology
You can choose one or arange of methods -the key point is relevance to the objectives of the project. If you do chooseonly one method you need to provide enough detail to enable assessment within the given criteria.
You must obtain permission from the tutor if you are collecting primary data via surveys or interviews. As a consideration, you should ensure that you are a bletoreachyour respondentseasily - and for quantitativework thatyou canreachenough of them. We do not expect statistical perfectionbutyouneed to be aiming for around 70 - 100 to make anyanalysis sensible, especially if you are doing any sort of comparison between productsor demo graphic groups
Please ensure you gain any relevant permission for any field work to administer your questionnaires in their facility. Be especially sure you have any necessary permission if you intend to conduct research in a public place. Ensure you understand relevant codes of conduct and dataprotectionissuesifusinginternet/e-ma il as a medium.
Others
Choose your group to include arange of complimentary skills and where possible people you feel you are going to be able to work with closely. Once you have identified individual members' strengths use them -you cannot all be good at all things and group dynamics are important to group success.
Working in this group is an important part of your learning process. The process you are going through in designing, implementing and presenting your project is as important as the end result. If at analysis stage it all goes abit wobbly—do not panic-if you have learnt from the process and can identify where you went wrong and what you would do differently next time then you have learnt valuable lessons from the course and will be rewarded for that learning.
Use the group structure wisely to share work load and bounce off ideas.
If you have a natural organiser—use them as a team leader, if you have a computer expert let them do the technical bit—use your most confident and competent presenters when required - this is what will happen in real life and learning to identify and embrace your different skills is a highly valuable lesson. You should also gain knowledge and experience from each other this way.
If you are experiencing any difficulties at all in your group work, flag this to your tutor as early as possible. If your equire a peer assessment form this must be requested from your tutor and will only be given to groups who have flagged problemsearly.
