Problem: This module brought up a lot of memories and feelings about my grandparent's (and generationally my parent's) subscription to the ideology of the Clean Plate Club. Coming out of the depression and through WWII, access to any food, let alone nutritional food, was greatly affected and many families in America adopted the clean plate club idea where in if it was served to you, you ate it. This came into play a lot during my own childhood in poverty and still effects my eating habits today. I think that given the poverty rate in America right now, I imagine a great number of families are struggling to simply get food on the table that many people are being trained (overtly or subvertly) to clean their plates because they don't know when their next meal will be. This, coupled with the fact that portion sizes are simply out of control, makes me wonder how much this is affecting the obesity and general health of the American people. Have you ever heard of the Clean Plate Club? How do you think we should address this association with eating everything on your plate? Not just for future generations, but also for the survivors of the generations where the idea had it's genesis.
