CASE: You work as a managing director in a foodstuffs company that employs 100 people: 50 in Europe, 30 in North America and 20 in Asia - due to COVID some 70 % of all are working from home offices. You have been told that due to the latest global political happenings, logistic chain prices, and rising costs there are rumors going around in the company: "Company may go bankrupt". You need to tell everyone this is not true and that focusing on developing the business is more important than ever. Tell

a) what kind of message would you form to the employees using the AIDA-MODEL (show that you know what the letters A, I, D, and A mean)

b) what media would you choose and why? (Refer to the schematic model of transactional communication)

2. Your work as a customer service manager in an industrial company. Two of the customer service assistants working for you visit you with their worries. Case A: Person X has a lot of worries in private life and feels incapable of working in the rhythm of the others. You assume this is temporary but you are afraid of burnout for the person, so you take some of the customers from the person and give them to your most efficient worker Y. You do not touch anyone´s salary. Case B: Person Z reports being "stuck" - nothing new happens in the job and it feels all routine, person feels capable for more challenge. You explain there is no new job in the department to offer but you decide the raise the salary by 100 €/mth to keep the person.

3. THE CASE: You work as a Human Resource Manager (HRM) in a car manufacturing company, where your boss is worried for the lack of new innovations. Since the company is doing financially fine, there is money to hire new people. He proposes each team of 7 people that you have is made stronger with 2 more new persons to "shake the organization a bit". He proposes two ways of finding and choosing the newcomers

A) using the personal networks of the current employees in recruiting: "Let them find their new colleagues" and

B) looking for people from outside your current business/industry: "It would be good if they have not even never seen a car!" Discuss the pros and cons of both proposals A and B, referring to what we know of Team Management as well as Managing creativity.

4. THE STATEMENT: Human beings never can make fully rational decisions, they are always "biased" by their values, experiences, and emotions. They also get tired and have limited hours of working. Therefore, intelligent machines like the systems powered by Artificial Intelligence would be better managers. The only limitation today is that the systems do not get all data to do their job. Once that problem is fixed, they make decisions on a much deeper and wider level than human managers. In the future, less and less people will be needed to do management".
