Part -1:

In Chapter 1 of Theatrical Worlds (pages 39-45, "How to Read a Play,") you read about the Greek tragedy Oedipus by Sophocles. You will continue with this story and read the play Antigone by Sophocles. This play can be found as a hard copy in Roesch Library or online.

In addition to your reading, view the excerpts from the National Theatre's contemporary version of Antigone and their short videos of introduction to Greek Theatre and Tragedy below.

Assignment: August Wilson was a Pulitzer Prize winning playwright who wrote about the African-American experience in the 20th century. Read his playFences (one of ten plays in his Pittsburg Cycle). You are responsible for securing the script. Check the catalog at U.D. Roesch Library.
