Assignment

The assignment instructions are below:

First Part :

(In 200 word each write about the following):

1-Your authors spend a few pages discussing how you create an atmosphere in which employees really want to work, and designing motivating jobs. Review this information and share some personal experiences you might have had that allowed you as a supervisor to use some of these techniques. If you have very little supervisory experience then share what someone did to motivate you in a particular job or activity.

2-There are many motivation challenges you will encounter as a supervisor. For example, how do you motivate a minimum-wage employee? Review these few pages on challenges and share some of your personal experiences on how someone motivated you, or how you have motivated others in one of these situations.

Second Part:

(In the class, I need to respond to the answers of four students from the first part. To explain it more, my classmates some of them answered the two questions. What you have to do is read them, then respond to it. The respond is like what you think about what he wrote. Also Like do you agree or disagree with what he wrote, what do you like about it and what you can add to his opinions and thoughts. (FYI try to be positive (like agree with him) and also be respectful)

(In 200 word each write a respond about the following):

1- I think that the list of activities contributing to motivating workers that is provided by the authors is very helpful to a supervisor. This list enables a supervisor to know exactly what to do when the morale of the workers is low. A supervisor can apply one or two of the listed activities to raise the employee's morale. Personally, I have no supervising experience but I have been a recipient of some of the items listed by the authors to create a motivating atmosphere for the employees. In my home country, I used to work at a PVC hose manufacturing company. Junior employees were assigned to supervisors and were about 10 of us in our group. Our supervisor was very experienced with matching the various activities to individuals. For instance, he did put me in charge of making records of the units our group developed since he noticed I was very meticulous with details. By matching our jobs with our talents, everyone had an easy time doing their jobs and we were thus very motivated.

2- It is difficult to encourage minimum wage employee because not all companies are able to afford giving their employees rewards economically. One of the ways that employers motivate their employees is by recognizing their hard work and giving them feedback. The feedback can me all good, along with constructive criticism regarding how they can further improve and get better. The recognition could be making a plaque for the employee of the month or making some sort of special ceremony to recognize their job well done. This increases their self-esteem in the job, and they are used as an example to follow by others. When I was a production director at a radio station, I was getting payed minimum wage, but I highly enjoyed my job because audio production was one of my hobbies. The station manager decided to begin a new tradition to encourage people to and motivate them more. He established that at the end of each semester the staff would vote for the employee and radio volunteer of the semester. I was fortunate enough to receive this recognition and was the first plaque placed on a frame in the awards section of the station. This increased my self-esteem as a radio production director and encouraged me to continue doing a great work and getting more involved with the station.

3- When it comes to motivating a minimum-wage employee, companies and supervisors will have different challenges to motivated these minimum-wage workers since they are at the lower level of performance. However, one of my job experiences back home in Saudi Arabia is that I used to work as a salesperson at Baskin Robbins for almost a year. At that time, my supervisor was great at motivating his employees because he used to give us a reward for each worker in every month when we achieve our goal sales and the target that we must have to accomplish to keep everyone motivated and work harder. Also, he was letting anyone from his employees to have the opportunity to work overtime if they want to make more money in their income. For this reason, after five months I've been working with the same company, my supervisor decides to updated my position from a salesperson to a manager store which was a better chance for me and a little bit of challenging because I used to be the only person in the store who does all the work from opening until closing. The company was providing us with a new uniform and information on how to do well for about every three to four months to match the season of weather and so we can do our work in a comfortable zone to reach the target sales that we must have to accomplish in every month.

4- I have no major experience as a supervisor, but I have worked with supervisors that were great at motivating the employees. During my first job, the supervisor was always encouraged and motivated us to be the best version of ourselves. Because of this person, I became highly motivated and more organized in every aspect of my life. Since it was a sale employment, you had to be motivated because if you weren't, you would get easily discouraged. This is due to interacting with different types of people and situations that make you question and discourage you as a sales person. He had us set goals and had different levels of sales positions that depended on how many sales you made. The supervisor also provided a lot of training and the opportunity to go to various professional conferences to improve business and sales. The top sales people were always recognized and used as an example for others; also helped lead training sessions for the new employees. If we accomplished our goals we received free products or discounts as rewards. As I read this chapter, I realized that all the listed suggestions about creating a motivated atmosphere on the text, were used by the supervisor at my first employment. It is important to be able to create a motivational atmosphere among your employee because there are many factors that can cause them to be discouraged. It is important to keep in mind that everyone is different and will get discouraged over multiple different reason, but as a supervisor, it is your responsibility to aid that employ in that aspect so that productivity can occur.
