Within your partners/group, interview 2-3 people, preferably older adults but will accept of any age, and ask them how they define successful aging. Classify their responses as best as you can using any of the three perspectives overviewed in this lesson (or some combination). In other words, do their definitions resemble a biomedical, psychosocial, or biographical perspective of successful aging? A combination? Has it changed at different points in their life? Justify your reasoning. How would knowing this information enable you to tailor an intervention for your interviewees? In other words, how would you design an intervention based on their definition of successful aging? Or what are the practical implications of first knowing a person's perspective of successful aging? For your interview - you need to develop interview questions or an interview guide. Interview questions typically avoid Yes/No responses. They asked more "how" type questions. An example may include: "Tell me about your typical day" or "How do you incorporate exercise into your daily life". You need to decide (as a pair/group) what are the best questions are that you want to ask. You may also want to have follow-up probes to a question that can help provide more detail to your interviewees responses.
Your homework should be no longer than two pages - this does not include the appendix. For the Appendix, it can be hand written notes and transcripts used as part of the homework. Note, that the transcript should look like an interview occurred - this means that an individual asking the questions typically speaks less than the individual responding. The questions asked should flow - but should avoid coming across robotic (this means you just go through the questions like a checklist - there should be more of a conversation occurring). If your transcript is only 1-2 pages in length, you may not have asked enough questions. However, as this is a class homework, I am not asking you to conduct an interview that takes more than 30 minutes.
