Your Power Story

How do you get energy to your home? How is your electricity powered? What happens when a power line goes down?

Your project is to learn how you get your electricity. Start by reviewing your electric bill. You can also review the utility company's website. You may have to call someone at the utility company to answer some questions as well as review other sources online.

In a PowerPoint-like presentation, create up to 10 slides answering the following questions:

- What is the name of the power plant that provides my electricity? Where is it located? What type of power source does it use?

- How far does electricity have to travel to get to my home? How many transformers and substations must it travel through? Where are these transformers and substations located?

- How many miles of high-voltage lines does my electricity travel through? How many miles of smaller lines does my electricity travel through?

- Which power grid is my utility company a part of?

- What happens when a power line goes down? What is the utility company's response plan for restoring electricity?

Provide a list of sources you used for obtaining your information. Include your utility bill, the company's website, and anyone you interviewed. Use appropriate graphics that add interest to each slide.
