Serving as a Program Analyst for several United States government agency I have had the opportunity to engage in a vast array of assignments which, unfortunately over time, has become monotonous for me. On the other hand, I eagerly look forward to working on special projects that require inter-departmental or inter-agency cooperation and planning. This most recent epiphany has steered me towards earning a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. The PMP certification is regulated by the Project Management Institute (PMI) who has set project management (PM) standards which are followed globally, across most industries and some governments.
It has been a challenge to narrow down to only three trends within PM as it is rapidly evolving. Currently, the three trends I am most interested in exploring are: Agile, data driven PM, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Although slow to adopt new business practices, I am noticing government agencies widely embracing traditional PM practices for programs and services beyond information technology projects. My goal for this research project is to uncover how United States government agencies can incorporate trending PM practices.
This sounds good in my head but I'm not confident it correlates.

Good evening, I am currently engaged with an effort at my company pertaining to encouraging mentorships though a program referred to as chapters. Among the activities will be cross skilling and cross-training, which is effectively extending the capabilities of employees beyond their present norms. I will be studying this concept in-depth and looking at current ways in which other organizations are leveraging this (Disprz, 2024)
The three trends in focus will be:
Defining cross skilling clearly, and comparing it to upskilling and re-skilling
The increase in emphasis on cross skilling in a post-pandemic workplace: how reduced resources must be enriched and encouraged to go further, and
Ways to identify and gauge job candidates which have prior cross skilling experience, or those which would be proficient in cross skilling practices.
I expect resources throughout the internet to be available on all of these, such as testimonials and articles written about other organizations who have done the same or similar.
I have a few questions, if anyone is able to provide any insight into their own perspectives. Thank you.
1. Do you have any experience in cross skilling, or even upskilling and re-skilling? Was it presented in a positive or at least constructive manner?
2. How do you feel in general about training or mentorship efforts in your own professional experiences? Have they been sufficient and frequent enough?
3. In your professional experiences, have there been any noticeable changes in training procedures since 2021?
