Question: The United States spends on average a little over 80 billion dollars a year on incarceration. This study mentions a 26% return rate for members that went through the shock incarceration program versus 42% re-offend rate for regular prisoners. This six-month program shows that it is effective, and in the end costs taxpayers less money. May times prison ends up maintaining a culture within itself and does not prove to rehabilitate offenders and prepare themselves for reentry to normal population. I believe that shock incarceration should be a much wider used program in order to better serve taxpayers, and better serve offenders with the skills gained to help them properly function in public.
