Give feedback on their choice of evidence or on their paraphrases
Students engaged in postsecondary online education favor receiving explicit and comprehensive feedback accompanied by rubrics, tracked changes, and illustrative examples to enhance their writing abilities.
Preference for Detailed, Supportive Feedback: A significant number of survey participants strongly preferred detailed and supportive feedback, emphasizing its role in improving their skills. For instance, one participant highlighted the importance of receiving meaningful and instructive feedback to facilitate improvement, particularly when errors are made (Gredler, 2018).
Proximity of Comments: Many participants preferred proximal feedback, meaning comments should be located near the related text. This preference suggests that students value feedback directly connected to specific parts of their work, helping them understand and apply the feedback more effectively (Gredler, 2018).
Reflecting on the process of paraphrasing, I found it challenging to condense the detailed findings of the study into brief statements without losing the essence of the original text. Maintaining the original intent and meaning is important while simplifying the language and structure. One question arises: how do you best balance the need for being concise while capturing the depth of the original findings?
