Science Question - Observe and Reflect

Identify a public location where you would be able to observe interactions between adults and children in a real-life setting. You may use a mall, park, church, or similar environment for your observation. Your selected location should be relatively unfamiliar to you so you may complete an unbiased observation. If you select a church, for example, you should complete your observation at a church other than the one you regularly attend.

Take notes as you complete a 30- to 45-minute unobtrusive observation of the interactions between adults and children.

Reflect on your observation. Consider the following in your reflection, using the theoretical lens of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:

What was the child doing?

What was the adult doing?

Did the adult and child seem to enjoy one another?

What behaviors (if any) in the child did the adult comment on?

Did the behaviors between the adult and child match?

What was it like for you to observe the interaction?

How do you believe the adult influenced the child's behavior?

How do you believe the child influenced the adult's behavior?

Submit your notes and your 2-page reflection as a Microsoft Word document.
