There has been research into social vulnerabilities for years but the field of emergency management is newer. As the knowledge is shared among disciplines and between research areas 'dominant views' have formed. Donner discusses the "vulnerability" perspective in disasters, which is rapidly emerging as a dominant view in the field. What is meant by this "vulnerability" perspective view? How is it different from the other dominant views of disasters/hazards? How do worldviews and values influence the vulnerability perspective?
