Question: One of the things we look at in history is not just the past, but how people remember the past. This has become particularly important when looking at the Civil War Era and Reconstruction. Looking at the primary source readings found in Chapter 15 for this week, along with the supplemental media found in our course policy sheet, how do we look at and remember Reconstruction? What did freedom mean for recently freed slaves in the South? How is this seen in the documents for this week, along with white efforts to contest and overturn these gained freedoms? How does this play out with the creation of Confederate Memorials after Reconstruction ends?
