Compared to other democratic countries, the United States often trails behind when it comes to voter turnout (VT). Although there are different ways to measure VT, the US percentage remains consistent, ranging from around 50% in 1996 to 56% VT in 2016.

Throughout this course, we have learned that the right to vote is not always a given and that oftentimes, it must be fought for. There have been significant barriers placed on certain groups based on race, ethnicity, and gender when it comes to voting; although these barriers have changed throughout history, many are still active today.

Given this information paired with what we have learned in class, craft a persuasive essay answering the following question: "How do we fix the issue of voter turnout in the United States?". Defend your answer with reference to our class subject matter and credible sources you find on your own.
