Case Study: Sabrina works at a hospital that serves a multiracial and multiethnic population, many of whom are immigrants. She is caring for Mrs. F., a middle-age Middle Eastern woman who was just admitted with severe pneumonia. Several family members are in the room with her. A nursing colleague, Louella, comments to Sabrina, "this is another foreigner who let things go too long and they should go back to where they came from." Sabrina feels offended by Louella's comment but hesitates to say anything because Louella is good friends with the charge nurse, and she is concerned about repercussions. When Sabrina talks to Mrs. F., she discovers that the family came as refugees from Syria several years prior. Mrs. F. has legal immigration status and has been working in a day care center. However, because she has no health insurance, she tries to take care of health issues at home as best she can use alternative and traditional remedies.
