Problem
Case Study:
Lake Thunderhead Hospital (critical access hospital) is exploring the use of adding mobile devices and apps because of the benefits they provide in the rural communities. The CEO and medical staff have asked for a report outlining the pros and cons of implementing mobile apps and risks to the organization and providers. The HIM manager is working with the security officer to investigate and prepare the report.
After evaluating mobile devices and apps, you both agree that mobile apps would be of great value in delivering quality care to patients.
I need to write a proposal for adopting mobile apps that includes the following points:
A. Select two mobile apps and describe the pros and cons for the organization, provider, and patient.
B. How do the mobile apps promote clinical communication and workflows?
C. Identify the relevant federal laws and regulations to consider in developing policies and procedures for utilizing mobile apps or devices.
D. Identify security threats to patient's health information that are specific to the use of mobile devices.
E. Analyze components of a risk management plan for mobile devices.
F. Recommend best practices for the use of mobile technology in complying with privacy and security of health information exchange.
