Assignment:

How do the House of Representatives and the Senate avoid duplicating work? "To avoid duplicity of work, joint committees comprising members from both houses work together to draft laws that will meet the approval of the entire Congress" (J.D., B. W., 2019, p. 61). Each house has its own set of committees that handle specific areas of legislation. This system allows them to divide tasks and focus on different aspects of proposed laws to streamline processes and avoid overlapping efforts. What is the purpose of remedial statutes? Remedial statutes correct defects, abuses, or injustices within the existing law (J.D., B. W., 2019, p. 62). They provide a method to update or improve the law by addressing specific issues identified since the law's original enactment or have emerged due to changes in society or technology.

What can happen when a bill is passed by Congress and sent to the President? When Congress passes a bill, it is sent to the President, who has several options. The President can sign the bill, veto it, or allow it to become law without a signature if not vetoed within ten days. If the bill is vetoed, it can still become law if both houses of Congress override the veto with a two-thirds majority in each house. (J.D., B. W., 2019, p. 65-66) Who are lobbyists and what is their function? Lobbyists are individuals or groups hired to influence legislation on behalf of their clients, which can include corporations, interest groups, or other entities.
