Case Study: For this question you will be choosing one subculture and one counterculture to explore. You will need to find one (possibly two) supporting websites that describe the activities, norms, symbols etc... of the subculture and counterculture that you choose to write about. It may be fun to write about a subculture (or possibly counterculture but don't get in trouble here) that you are involved with as you can bring your own expertise here. It may also be worth noting that some people could arguably be both a subculture and a counterculture depending on the specific people who claim a given identity.

Here are a few examples of subcultures:

Athletes (volleyball, basketball, football, golf, disc golf, roller derby etc...)

Goths, Punks, Metal Music, Hip Hop (other genres)

Questions:

1) After conducting your research, write a description of the subculture and counterculture that you selected. How does the group have different norms, beliefs, values, symbols (material culture, language such as slang). You may want to consider including a visual image that highlights a symbol important to the group in your post.

2) In what ways are the groups that you looked at influencing the broader culture? Would most people who do not participate in the subculture/counterculture that you selected think of the group's activities as positive, negative, or neutral? Why?

3) How do the groups play an important role in the lives of the members of the groups? If you belong to a subculture or counterculture, you can speak from your experience here.
