Case Analysis of HBS case :
Aspen Lodge:
1. Review all information from the Banff case study and development a summary of the lodge's culture, how they operate, what they expect of current employees, and what they expect of future employees. Additionally, integrate context relevant to the information on Canada's job market and recruitment/exchange programs.
2. Provide a detailed critique of the Aspen's hiring, onboarding, and training processes from the standpoint of reliability and validity. Among other things, your approach should integrate details about job analysis and standardization. Additionally, you should identify potential biases or biasing practices of concern. The goal here is to enhance the existing processes described in the case. This may require you to discuss topics that were not mentioned in the case but are relevant to the enhancement process.
3. From the information provided in the case, extract key knowledge, skills, abilities, and other (KSAOs) characteristics (i.e., work-related characteristics [WRCs]). Clearly identify and describe those elements. Then, link those elements to a comparison of the candidates. Finally, identify two candidates that you would recommend for the Front Desk role. You must clearly discuss each candidate as it relates to the extracted KSAOs/WRCs, provide comparisons, and justify your recommendations. Do not forget to include the tourism context (potential candidates, recruitment options, and customer/tourist needs).
Considerations for framing your responses:
These are guiding questions and statements. You should address each as needed in your response.
- Review and integrate the history and current context of Banff.
- Consider the location. How might each candidate fair in Canada? Is one employee more qualified than the other because of the location or national origin? If so, how? Use United States legislation as your guide.
- How do the extracted KSAOs (WRCs) relate to the needs of the organization? From this standpoint, why might one candidate be a better match for the job?
