Problem
You will review what you have learned about evaluation strategies that can be applied to a criminal justice program or policy. You will use your completed work.
Preparation
1. Refer to Figure 5.1, "Embedded Evaluation Model," in Ch. 5, "Define, Part 1: Understanding the Program," of Program Evaluation.
2. Access the Wk 1 Learning Activities folder and watch "What is the SARA Model? Problem Solving with the SARA Model."
Task
Write a summary of strategies that can be applied when evaluating a criminal justice program or policy.
Use the following headings to organize information in your summary and address the prompts provided within the headings:
1. Evaluation Models: To begin the evaluation process, an evaluator must first select an appropriate evaluation model.
2. Compare the basic principles of the embedded evaluation model and the SARA model. For example:
3. Why might a criminal justice program or policy evaluator use the embedded evaluation model? Why might a criminal justice program evaluator use the SARA model?
4. How do the evaluation processes and outcomes differ? How are they similar?
5. Evaluation Questions: Evaluation questions help the evaluator efficiently structure the evaluation plans and procedures.
6. Explain the relevance of evaluation questions in the evaluation process.
7. Identify 3 or 4 guidelines a program evaluator should consider when developing evaluation questions.
