Our first discussion board is a reflection on the two documentaries we are watching this week: Art 21 - Mexico City and Art 21 - Vancouver. As you view these artist documentaries, keep the issue of place in mind. Most of us are situated in and around Los Angeles. I've chosen these two cities - Mexico City and Vancouver - because they are prominent, international scenes in Western North America to the north and south of LA.

As you view these episodes, please begin thinking about the influence of PLACE on an art scene. How do elements of geography - climate, terrain, urban planning, economy, culture, politics - shape an art scene? In your discussion post, please answer the following questions drawing from the set of artists covered in the Art21 documentaries on Mexico City and Vancouver:
