Respond to these following quotes - do you agree with them, disagree with them, and explain why or why not...how do they affect your faith life and engagement with the church?
Paragraph 1: "Medieval Christians, however, never considered faith strictly private." Is this different than the way we view faith today? Is this view more biblically accurate? Why or Why not?
Paragraph 2: "A true Christian must be willing to sacrifice everything in this life for the sake of the next." What does this mean in our modern day? Do you agree with this statement?
Paragraph 3: "The reorientation was dramatic. Previously he (Francis of Assisi) benefited from wealth, sought honor, and was repulsed by illness like leprosy. With Christ as his model, he abandoned the security of wealth, lived a humble life dedicated to benefiting others, and embraced lepers. Leaving home in a ragged cloak and a rope belt taken from a scarecrow, he wandered the countryside with a few followers, begging from the rich, giving to the poor, and preaching the joys of faith amid poverty." Do you believe that this kind of life is the ideal for a Christian? Why or Why Not?
