Kmart, the discount department store, traces its origin back to S.S. Kresge stores in 1897. The first Kmart-branded store opened in 1962. Once the country's largest retailer, there are now only a handful of Kmart stores still open. The first Walmart store opened in 1962, and by the 1990's Walmart was the nation's largest retailer. Today Walmart remains the largest retailer and the largest company in America. How did Walmart overtake Kmart? Discuss briefly three retail business practices that Walmart did right and Kmart did wrong.
