Marshall Plan: After the end of World War II, the United States would become an economic and military power. At the same time, most of Europe lay in ruins. Stalin and the Soviet Union would control the Eastern Bloc as pictured in red below. Many were concerned that the Western Block (in blue) would fall to Stalin and the Soviet Union. In order to prevent this, the United States provided funding of $13 billion with the Marshall Plan. Here is a link with more information on the Marshall Plan.
