Assignment:

Throughout the 1970s, a great deal of change took place in America. A growing antiwar movement challenged the Nixon administration and its policies in Vietnam, and a very distinct counterculture emerged.

The United States pulled out of Vietnam, leaving many people wondering what the point of American involvement was. There was an easing of tension between the United States and the Soviet Union, but other events at home (such as the Watergate scandal) served to promote public disillusionment with the government.

For your initial post, choose an international or domestic event that contributed to public disillusionment. How did that event shape the course of American development in the 1970s and 1980s? How did this event contribute to Cold War tensions?
