Assignment:

Need help with the following question

Discuss the socialization process into physical activity, and the role that socializing agents, social situations, and personal attributes play.

Society, gender, and culture all play a role in the physical activity choices one makes. The sociocultural attitudes of groups of people either encourage or discourage certain motor behaviors from occurring. These social and cultural constraints have a great influence on one's motor behavior throughout their lifespan. These constraints are considered environmental constraints because they reflect a general attitude or belief system present in society, or in certain subcultures. Not all sociocultural constraints are obvious, yet they still exert a powerful influence on the motor behaviors one chooses to engage in.

Additionally here are some questions to consider but please elaborate and tell a story about how past social and cultural constraints led them to where they are today regarding physical activity and motor behavior.

  • Who was your most influential socializing agent in sport or physical activity?
  • How did they facilitate your involvement in physical activity?
  • How did your culture impact your physical activity choices? (or lack thereof)
  • How did your gender (I'm a male) play a role in your physical activity choices?
  • What were other critical factors that occurred to lead you to your current role in physical activity and sport?
  • How did these critical factors(s) influence your role in physical activity?
