Unfortunately, an infection begins in your toe, and the neurotoxins produced by the pathogens (we'll say Clostridium tetani) make their way up to the brain, where they cause the nerves controlling your jaw to spasm (causing "lockjaw"). How did the toxins get up to the brain?
